Want to reduce the use of topical steroids for Eczema or Dry Itchy skin?
How we reduced the use of topical steroids for eczema
One of the questions I am asked all the time is how did you do to reduce the use of topical steroids on your little one? As you know the origins of Poppy's Natural Skincare lie in my son Eesa's cradle cap which turned into severe eczema.
I also, used to have eczema as a child and whenever we went to my parents native Bangladesh, a paste of neem leaves was applied to the affected areas, and it automatically soothed and calmed my skin. By the end of the holiday my eczema had always disappeared only to reappear as soon as we returned to the UK!
When at the age of 11 months Eesa's eczema was getting so out of hand that the consultant dermatologist recommended a cream that had potential carcinogenic side effects, I knew I had to do something. I found a source of organic neem oil, however, it took a while for me to get the formulation correct, luckily my background in Molecular Cell Biology helped.
Those of you that are familiar with neem oil, will know that it is a viscose substance and applying concentrated oil onto your skin could even make your eczema worse. Living in the UK, meant I didn't have a neem tree in our back garden to pick the leaves and make a paste with. The oil is far more concentrated than using just the leaves on their own, as I had done as a child.
I have also added other ingredients that are remarkably effective at soothing dry and itchy skin such as chickweed, calendula, chamomile and borage. The Soothing Neem and Chamomile Balm with Calendula and Chickweed has the ultimate combination of ingredients for calming and soothing the skin and providing relief from the constant need to itch.
Those of us with eczema tend to also have inherently dry skin and the Super Moisturising Organic Body Butter does exactly what it says; it deeply moisturises the skin all over the body.
How is Eesa doing now?
If you are wondering how Eesa, who is now aged 6, is doing... Eesa rarely uses topical steroid cream. It is currently 95% Poppy's Natural Skincare and 5% topical steroid cream versus 100% topical steroid cream! We do still occasionally need to use steroid cream, for example when the radiators first come on in winter. Eesa now uses the Soothing Neem & Chamomile Balm with Calendula & Chickweed on the affected areas and Super Moisturising Organic Body Butter all over, as his skin is naturally dry.
Here's our routine for you to follow:
Step 1
For maximum protection against dry skin and eczema, use our Soothing Neem & Chamomile Balm with Chickweed & Calendula on your body, paying particular attention to affected areas.
Step 2
Follow by treating your skin to our luxurious Organic Body Butter (3 different fragrances available, Calming Neroli, Vanilla Ice Cream and Unfragranced) keeping your skin soft and hydrated throughout the day.
Try it!
